STEUBENVILLE — While school officials continue to wait for the state auditor’s final report, Eastern Gateway Community College interim President Mike Geoghegan said it appears alleged irregularities involving purchasing cards “was rather limited.”
“We feel like we have a handle on it,” Geoghegan said. “We’ve closed all the purchasing cards down except for one, in the business office. Right now it’s in the hands of the state auditor. But I can tell you it was really not widespread.”
Last week, the college’s board of trustees announced Vice President and Chief of Staff Jim Miller had been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of an auditor’s review of “questionable” items he’d allegedly expensed on his college-issued procurement card.
Geoghegan said red flags were spotted during an internal review.
“That is worth repeating,” he added. “We discovered it ourselves in an internal review and presented (the information) to the state auditor. We were concerned about it and got right on it, we took care of it in a pretty expeditious manner. Some of it is still ongoing, but that’s out of our hands. Right now it’s in the hands of the state…
