COVID-19: Alberta sees 100 total deaths in continuing care; 32 new positive cases Friday – Edmonton Journal

Even as Alberta continues ona downward trend in new cases of COVID-19, deaths in long-term care have hit a new milestone.

One hundred people have now died from the new coronavirus across the province, as two additional deaths in care were recorded Friday. There are currently 83 active cases and 621 recoveries in long-term care.

Provincial data shows nine people have died from COVID-19 over the last week, the only COVID-19-related deaths recorded since May 15. Eight deaths were in Calgary, and one was in Edmonton.

A total of 134 people have died from the disease in Alberta.

32 new positive cases

An additional 32 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the province Friday, bringing the total to 6,800.

Of Alberta’s total cases, 865 are active, and 5,801 have recovered.

In a Friday news release, Alberta Health said the hospitalization rate remains low. Fifty-four people are in the hospital — six of whom are in intensive care.
