(JASPER) – Gina Scruggs had time on her hands and a head full of ideas while waiting out the COVID-19 shutdown.
Though her State Farm office on Jasper’s 19th Street remained open, business slowed down. Scruggs and her husband, Carey, also canceled their Slow Spokes community bike rides to protect the health of the riders.
In late April, Scruggs took a look at the outside of her building and decided it was time to act on one of her many ideas.
“I had wanted to do something with that side of the building. Jim Woods with Jasper Auto Sales actually owns the building. He said, ‘Yes, do whatever you want,'” Scruggs said.
Scruggs enlisted the help of her good friend and local art instructor, Eddie Brown.
On April 30, she posted a short video on her Gina Scruggs State Farm Insurance Agent Facebook page that showed Brown painting green on a blue wall from a healthy 6 feet away.
“When you have an artist for a friend… and the town is coming alive from quarantine slowly… you paint a mural on your office building. Give us time… it may take a couple of weeks, but the end result will be fabulous!” Scruggs wrote.
