Aptos’ Eddie Olson eagled his final hole Friday — the par-5 ninth hole on the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course — but he narrowly missed the cut at the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.
Olson holed out his third shot from 82 yards to close with another 72 to finish with an even-par 144 total. The cut was 1 under par.
The former Aptos High and UNLV standout carded a costly bogey on the par-3 eighth hole.
He finished his round with one eagle, three birdies (hole Nos. 13, 3 and 6), two bogeys (Nos. 16 and 8) and one double-bogey (No. 15).
Among those shooting even par and missing the cut were Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cal alumus KK Limbhasut. Phil Mickelson (145), Scottie Scheffler (147), Nick Watney (148), Justin Suh (148) and Isaiah Salinda (152) also missed the cut.
Olson shot 5-under-par 67 and tied for third at the event’s Monday qualifier at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta. He survived a five-man playoff for two spots by carding birdie with a 22-foot-putt on the second playoff hole.
