Aptos’ Eddie Olson shot even-par 72 on the North Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open on Thursday.
The UNLV alumnus and mini-tour player had four birdies (holes Nos. 5, 9, 12 and 16) and four bogeys (Nos. 2, 6, 8 and 13). He is tied for 71st place with Phil Mickelson, Nick Watney, Beau Hossler and 12 others.
In Friday’s second round, he’ll tee off at 11 a.m. off the 10th tee on the more difficult South Course.
Sebastian Cappelen and Keegan Bradley share the lead at 6-under-par 66. Rory McIlroy (67) is tied for third, Jon Rahm (68) is tied for 11th, Tiger Woods (69) is tied for 21st, and Jordan Spieth (70) is tied for 34th in the star-studded San Diego event.
The field includes nearly two dozen players who have competed at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Cub in Santa Cruz, including Woods, Watney, Hossler, Rahm and Spieth.
