CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was a dream that lasted just a week. Perhaps no one was rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers this past weekend more than State Farm. After all, the insurance company has almost as much invested in the two teams’ respective quarterbacks as the NFL does.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers have been the centerpieces of State Farm’s commercials. There was no way of avoiding their ads over the course of these playoffs.
The two teams playing each other in the Super Bowl would have given State Farm even more publicity. Heck, they may have even shot a new commercial during the off week before the big game.
Rodgers has been associated with state Farm since the ” target=_blank>“Discount Double Check” days. Mahomes is widely considered the heir apparent to Rodgers as the best quarterback in the NFL.
Mahomes did his job, leading the Chiefs over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Rodgers, on the other hand, could not figure out the San Francisco 49ers defense.
The Chiefs will play the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2. But we’ll always have this.
